When travelling around the world one place everyone seems to mention when they realise we are Australian is Perth. With picture-perfect beaches, glorious weather and beautiful parks I couldn’t wait to check out what all the fuss was about. We flew over from Melbourne with Virgin Australia who have these amazing new bassinets for babies that enable you to place your child in them, zip them up and let them sleep without having to interrupt them and get them out if the seat belt sign goes on, perfect! It meant I even got to enjoy a movie which was heaven for a mother who is used to flying with a child on her at all times.
My husband travels to Perth very regularly for work so we stayed where he usually does, Crown Metropol. Crown is an enormous complex that includes the casino, 3 hotels, 33 restaurants and bars and more all within easy access to the city. It is not somewhere I would normally choose for us to stay but I was actually pleasantly surprised. Rooms were very comfortable and modern and the staff were efficient and friendly. Crown Metropol hotel is very child friendly, with an amazing outdoor pool that included 2 waterslides that I had to drag my children away from! They also have toddler pools as well as a kids room and bikes for hire.
The oceanside Smiths Beach Resort, Yallingup in the Margaret River region is where we headed next and we loved it! The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful, upgrading us on arrival to a magnificent four bedroom beach house overlooking the striking blue water of Smiths Beach. The rooms were modern, clean and very large, with fabulous large oval free standing baths in each bathroom and great blackout blinds to ensure no one wakes too early! The main living, dining and kitchen as well as a large balcony with dining table all overlooked the marvellous sands and water of Smiths Beach. They were incredibly child friendly, offering high chairs, portacots and safety gates on arrival as well as having the beach a stones throw away they also had a shallow childs pool to accompany their main pool. Lamont’s was fabulous, that is their restaurant and deli/cafe. Staff were really nice, food was fantastic, they had take home meals if you wanted to eat in your room and you can even have them come to your room and cook if you desire! There is a plethora of things to do in the Margaret River region as you have the best of both worlds, beach and the beautiful water coupled with gourmet food and wine. All the food places we ate catered extremely well for children, with even the breweries having sand pits and playgrounds to keep the kids entertained which allows mum and dad to relax with a glass of wine!
